University or Other Residencies

Aly is available for any event and frequently teaches at residencies, workshops and ongoing classes. He also offers lecture/demonstrations, individual performances, or performances with his West African drum and dance ensemble, Samato. Most residencies are between two and five days, though some are longer, and one-day or one-time workshops are available as well.

For residencies, Aly is able to teach beginner to advanced students separately or as a group, depending on what is needed. Aly's classes involve learning about both technique and the cultural background of the rhythms being taught. His engaging lecture/demonstrations or individual performances involve the audience in creating rhythm and song, learning about the cultural background of the rhythms and instruments., and he provides lots of traditional music as well.

Funding a Residency:  There are some creative ways to fund a residency or workshop. You may be eligble to apply for a grant to bring Aly as a touring artist or as a traditional/folk artist. Most states offer such a grant.  Aly is listed as a touring artist with the state of Georgia at:
www.gaarts.org/documents/GCATouringArtistRoster_Final.pdf.  He is under "Samato" on page 51.  Other  states frequently allow you to bring Aly based on this Georgia link.  States have varying grant deadlines throughout the year.  You can also make creative suggestions! Aly's goal is to share his culture and skills.  He welcomes any ideas for how to do that.
